Chapter 8 Have One Main Idea!

This chapter was common sense. Or at least appeared that way! The basis was to make sure that you make paragraphs distinct and organize them around a purpose.

Also creating one single sentence to sum up points of entire paragraphs.

I do believe that it is important to make sentences coherent on websites. With so many scattered sites, organization and clarity with allow users to navigate through the site easier and also make them want to come back again.

Chapter 7 Hot Links!!!

Be sure that users know what they are getting when they are clicking on a link. This will consist of a few things:
1.Giving enough information so that the link can be skipped.
2. Using a pop up description.
3. Writing a brief link and having an explanation to go along with it.

These are just a few of the key pointers that were given in order to make links clear and concise. Also be sure that the link is relevant. There is nothing worse than clicking links that have no meaning and are not what you expected.

Chapter 6 Make the Text Scannable

This may mean that the title has to stand out more and be longer instead of short.

By making the title stand out that sets it a part from other items on the menu. The book stated if you use the same title on each page, guest will know what to expect when they click the title each time.

I think that if a person uses the same title it also sticks in the users head. I know that a few of the music site I have visited have different titles on each section of every page. Hmm... maybe that is why I can't remember the sites... Go figure...

Chapter 5 Watch Being Ambiguous!!!

In my opinion ambiguity can be a good and bad. However, when it comes to making a connection through writing, it is best to place clarity as a first priority. The example that they provided in the book was not to cut out connective tissue such as the words which and that.

The book mentions that when readers create confusion for themselves by reconsidering the sentence an Escher effect. This is when people are forced to consider the text instead of just taking it in.

Most of the sites online are set up as to where they omit articles and words such as which and that. I believe the main purpose is to cut the writing and make it shorter, however if they confuse the readers, it is much safer and efficient to leave the words in.

I am so boring....

Another hectic week, another late blog. I wish that I had more time to focus on my blog, maybe even make more then one entry per week. Time is not on my side.

This was an uneventful weekend up until today. I went off on my own filming, which I love doing, but today was different. I usually watch the footage that I film right after I do it, so I can reshoot anything that needs fixed. Today I didn't. Then at night I looked at the footage and there was something there that wasn't when I filmed earlier. I am not saying what it is, or what happened, let's just say I'm sleeping with the light on tonight. The camera lens doesn't lie. Sorry that I cannot post what it is about, but I am not jinxing myself, any more.

I will blog more this week, when I have a spare moment. My fellow online classmates' blogs are so much more interesting. Sorry guys, what can I say, I am boring.

ATTENTION!!!

According to our text in chapter 4, people aim to what cathces their attention online. The key is SIMPLICITY!!!

No one wants to sit and read a comlicated virtual story book. No way...

What we all want is simple, to the point facts and information that are at hand when needed.

The concept of paying attention on how we write was very interesting. There are basic formats that need to be followed. For example: Evolving the understanding of the subject.

Plain and simple show what you know, but make it easy for everyone else to jump on board. If this means learning the subject inside out do it. That way one can get a feel for their audience, which is another format that can be followed.

Making the text interesting will help bring readers back. Which I am hoping to do through my blogs, though they tend to be moderately boring or lacking.

In conclusion to my late night blog- Keep the text clear, simple, and pay attention to what you are writing. Not only will that be appreciated by an audience, but by yourself as well!!

Snakes on a Plane!!! Well, not exactly...

I never know what to blog about so I thought I would amuse everyone with the new editions (plural) to my household. I recenlty purchased 2 male full grown corn snakes. Yes. Both are 31/2 Feet long and they eat frozen mice, which is disgusting, but hey, what can I do? One is named Jake (how original) and the other is named Blaze because he is red and orange like fire. They live in a 20 gallon tank and are on display right smack dab in the middle of our living room. Some may say they are the conversation piece when one comes to dinner!!

All right, enough babbling!
